Terms of service
Last updated 11 September 2026
WildList is made by Benjamin Isaac Mager, an individual developer in the United States. These terms are an agreement between you and Benjamin Isaac Mager ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use WildList.
WildList is offered in the United States. Our privacy policy describes what the app collects and is part of these terms.
You must be at least 13 years old. The app asks for your date of birth when you sign up, uses it only to check your age, and does not store it. You must give a working email address and keep your password to yourself; everything done from your account is treated as done by you.
Sightings, photos, notes, comments, your profile and everything else you add to WildList remain yours. You give us permission to store it, to show it to the people you have chosen to share it with (your sightings and their locations are visible to you and to friends you have accepted, and likes and comments are visible to signed-in users), to send photos and text to the services that identify species and screen images, as the privacy policy describes, and to make the copies needed to run the app. You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload. You can delete any sighting, and you can delete your whole account from Settings.
WildList has zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users. You may not post, and we will remove, content that is sexual or pornographic, that is violent or gory beyond what a wildlife record needs, that harasses, threatens, bullies or demeans a person or group, that promotes hatred on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or any similar characteristic, that is spam, a scam or misleading, that infringes someone else's rights, that breaks the law, or that shows illegal treatment of animals. You may not impersonate anyone, use another person's account, target or harass other users, evade a block, or attempt to interfere with the app, its servers or its AI features. Using the AI features for anything other than identifying and discussing wildlife, or trying to make the AI ignore its instructions, is misuse.
We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules at any time and without warning, and we may do so on a single report. There is no appeal process beyond writing to us at the address below.
Every sighting, every comment and every user profile in the app can be reported. Open the menu on a sighting in the feed, on a comment, or on a user's profile and choose Report. You pick a reason from the list in the app: inappropriate content, spam or misleading, harassment or hate, wrong species, or something else. A report goes to us with the reason, the item reported and your account ID; you cannot report your own content.
The moment a report is filed, the reported item is hidden from you: a reported sighting or comment no longer appears in your feed or in comment threads, and a reported user's content is hidden for you. This happens immediately and does not depend on us acting. We review reports and act on the content and the account under the rules above. We do not tell the person you reported who reported them.
You can block another user from their profile, from a comment they wrote, or from the feed with Report and block, which files a report and blocks in one step. Blocking is silent: the other person is not told. It removes any friendship between you, cancels any pending friend request in either direction, and hides that person's sightings, comments and profile from your feed, from comment threads and from search. Your list of blocked users is private to you. You can unblock someone later from Settings under Blocked users, which restores what was hidden but does not restore the friendship.
Photo identification, describe-to-identify, the identify chat and the species chat are produced by an AI model run by Anthropic, after each photo has passed an automated safety screen run by Google Cloud Vision. Identifications are suggestions and can be wrong; you choose what to record, and you are responsible for anything you rely on them for. Do not use them to decide whether something is safe to eat, touch or approach.
An image that fails the safety screen is refused. Repeated refused images or repeated misuse of the chat record strikes against your account; enough strikes in a thirty-day window pause your AI features for twenty-four hours. Strikes expire thirty days after they are recorded. The free plan includes a fixed number of identifications and chat sessions; a paid plan includes more per billing period, and every plan is subject to a daily ceiling that exists to protect the service from abuse.
WildList Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's App Store, in the monthly and yearly options shown in the app. The price is shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency, and is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the same price for the same period unless you cancel it at least twenty-four hours before the current period ends; you cancel or change it in your Apple ID subscription settings, not in WildList, and deleting the app or your WildList account does not cancel it. Payments are handled by Apple, and refunds are requested from Apple under Apple's terms. Restore purchases in the app if a subscription bought with your Apple ID is not showing on your account. Pro gives you deeper AI features, cosmetic options and export; everything social and everything about your own data stays free.
The Spotted Nearby section shows observations that other people have posted publicly on iNaturalist, used under iNaturalist's terms; WildList never posts your sightings there. Species summaries and pictures come from Wikipedia under its licence. Maps come from Apple. Those services are not ours, and their content is theirs.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. The privacy policy lists exactly what deletion removes and what it leaves behind. We may suspend or delete your account for breaking these terms, as described above, or if we discontinue the app, in which case we will make reasonable efforts to tell you first.
WildList is provided as it is, without any warranty, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Species identifications, rarity grades, seasons and every other piece of nature information in the app may be wrong. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for lost data, or for anything that happens because you relied on the app, and our total liability to you for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for WildList or its content and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. The licence you receive covers use of WildList on Apple devices that you own or control, as the App Store rules allow. If WildList fails to conform to a warranty that applies to it, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app, if any; Apple has no other warranty obligation. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to WildList, including product-liability claims, claims that it fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer-protection claims, and for investigating and resolving any claim that it infringes a third party's intellectual property. You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a United States government embargo or designated a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, and any dispute arising from them or from your use of WildList will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Colorado. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
When the app changes in a way that affects these terms, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Continuing to use WildList after a change means you accept the new terms.
